Co-educational or Single Sex Boarding School

There are boarding schools for girls only and for boys only as well as co-educational schools.  Some schools offer the ‘Diamond’ system where students are taught in a co-educational environment in the prep school and the Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13, age 16 to 18 years) and in single sex classes from age 11 or 13 to 15.

Many girls’ schools have an arrangement with a local boys or co-ed school for social functions, drama and school trips and the same arrangement may be made at a boys’ school with a local girls’ school.  Only you can make the decision as to whether a single-sex or co-ed environment would suit your child, however, we strongly recommend that you consider both options.  It is a big decision and it is important that you child is involved throughout the process.

There is a body of research which suggests that girls do learn differently from boys. So, if that is the case, maybe you should consider a girls school for your daughter instead of sending her to a co-ed school.
