Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate

Combined Co-education School in York, North Yorkshire

Set in more than 220 acres of beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, Queen Ethelburga’s has provided students with a vibrant and supportive school community since 1912.
Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate (QE) comprises four schools welcoming students from 3 months for day students, and year 3 for boarding. There are strong academic standards across the Collegiate and students are encouraged to have high expectations for their achievements and career prospects. There is a wide curriculum available enabling students to pursue their individual interests and aspirations across a range of fields. QE prides itself on quality accommodation. Students in Years 6 to 13 have ensuite bedrooms and every boarding house includes a modern, well-equipped common room for socialising and downtime. Sixth form students also have items like kettles and washing machines whereas younger students have specialised dorms and common rooms designed for little people. QE is also proud of its excellent sports facilities with a large Sports Hall, 25 metre indoor heated swimming pool, Fitness Centre, grass and AstroTurf sport pitches and tennis courts. Students can participate in a variety of sports including football, rugby, basketball, cricket, hockey, tennis, athletics, swimming and gymnastics, plus others.

Our Collegiate motto which is known as the Hill Standard, “To be the best that I can with the gifts that I have” lies at the heart of everything that we try to achieve at QE. Our belief is that there are many ways to be successful in life and our aim is to help each individual find the way that will work best for them.

Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate (QE) has a long-standing relationship with the British Forces and has welcomed Forces students for over 100 years. As a preferred school for military families, we currently have over 340 Forces students boarding with us on a campus of 1300 students. We welcome boarders from Year 3 onwards and pride ourselves on our wrap-around specialist support for our Forces students and their families. We are CEA accredited and in recognition of our commitment to the British Forces, we offer a significant reduction in fees to CEA, non-CEA and Ex-Forces families.
