The Elms is a co-educational preparatory school for pupils aged 3-13 with boarding, flexi and day options. We offer a balance between classroom learning and outdoor pursuits encouraging pupils to be aspirational, competitive, driven, as well as self-affirmed, loyal, grounded and rounded.
We have a genuine investment in childhood where the wellbeing of the child is central to everything. We celebrate the individual and provide a truly inspirational start in life. The size and nature of our school gives the comfort of an extended family enjoying small class sizes and a home from home, especially for boarders. The house staff create a happy and calm environment, in which children can thrive and have fun as part of the boarding family.
We are proud of our long-established relationship and support of the military community. We have teachers who are military spouses, and fully understand the need for excellent pastoral care.
The children spend a lot of time outside enjoying the working farm, riding (children can bring their pony), building camps, climbing trees, walking the many dogs, and making the most of our extensive sport and extra-curricular programme.
The Elms is fully independent allowing us to help select the best senior school for each child. We are proud of our exceptional success, with 62% going forward with scholarships, despite being non-selective ourselves. Our children are confident and excited learners who will always stand out.
