The school has a worldwide reputation for sport, particularly in the areas of elite swimming, fencing, hockey, rugby and cricket. Plymouth College offers a world-leading elite swimming programme, and had representatives at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021; with a former pupil taking a gold for Team GB. 

Plymouth College is fortunate in having the coastline and Dartmoor National Park on its doorstep. This allows the school to provide an unrivalled outdoor education provision including: Sailing, Sea and River Kayaking, Coast Steering, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Combined Cadet Forces (Army, Navy and RAF) and Ten Tors.
