Haberdashers’ Adams

State Co-Educational boarding and day, Shropshire

HHaberdashers’ Adams is a selective state grammar school, founded in 1656, located in the rural market town of Newport in Shropshire. Newport is one hour from Birmingham and a 90-minute train journey from London. Tuition is free and boarding costs from £5,278 per term for the year 2026/27. Junior boarders (Years 7–9) live at Longford Hall, a Georgian mansion set in 100 acres of grounds a mile from the school. Beaumaris Hall, metres from the main school site, is home to senior boarders (Years 10–13) who enjoy bright modern facilities and en suite rooms.

A reputation for high academic results is equalled by a strong house system and a huge variety of enrichment activities. There is a real focus on providing pupils with as many opportunities as possible to try new things. There are over 60 extra-curricular activities, including a thriving Combined Cadet Force and an active Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

Forces children have a dedicated member of staff with responsibility and oversight for their personal and academic development. Once every half term, our Forces children are offered the opportunity to come together on a field trip and receive advice and support off-site. This creates an opportunity to share experiences with peers, work as a team and build a Forces community.
