Sports Boarding Schools

Through elite sporting academies, independent schools in the UK are producing tomorrow’s Olympians in a wide range of sports.

Sport plays a central role in a school’s mission to support and nurture individual pupils with diverse needs.  It helps to develop confidence and provides a physical, technical and mental stimulation and opportunities to develop through teamwork and leadership.

For students with a talent and passion in a particular sport, access to world-class facilities and professional level coaching through a structured programme of training is vital to success.  Students attend sessions in strength and conditioning, nutrition and sports psychology relevant to their particular sport; individually tailored programmes optimise the performance of the individual student.  The schools have links with regional and national squads and students regularly represent their school and compete to ensure progression.  Sports academies offer the opportunity to develop a student’s skill alongside academic studies.

A Tennis Academy at an independent school will offer tennis over 4 levels on a recreational, development, performance and elite level.  With the aim of instilling a disciplined, professional and high quality approach to practice, training and competition.  The Elite squad is a small group of highly-rated players competing at or above high county standard.  An individual practice and training programme, guidance on nutrition, regular team matches and national competitions are part of the programme coached by professional specialists.  Facilities may include floodlit hard courts, all-weather courts, indoor performance courts and clay courts.
